Harbour View Coders Win North East Digital Challenge

We are incredibly proud to announce that Harbour View's Year 5 coding team has won the 2026 North East Primary Digital Challenge — a prestigious competition that challenges primary school pupils to use technology to solve real-world problems.

The team — Kian, Aaliyah, Mohammed and Grace — designed and built a prototype app called 'TidyTyne' that allows residents to photograph and report fly-tipping in their neighbourhood, automatically geotagging the location and sending a report to the council.

Mr Hassan, Computing Lead, said: 'This is exactly what we mean when we talk about digital skills for the real world. These children didn't just learn to code — they identified a problem in their community and used technology to solve it. That's the future.'

The team will now represent the North East at the national finals in Birmingham in March. Good luck to them!
